Rabbi Hecht was inducted as Rabbi of the first Sephardic Jewish Congregation in Queens & LI - "The Sephardic Jewish Congregation & Center of Queens", in 1974. Prior to coming to Queens he studied in Kollel in Eretz Yisroel from 1967-70 and then moved back to Brooklyn, NY where served as Outreach Director of New York College Youth.

Rabbi Hecht is a Musmach of Yeshivas Tomchei Temmim Lubavitch, Brooklyn, NY and completed his Advanced Rabbinic Studies – Dayanut under the tutelage of Rabbi Asher Abramson, Talmud of the Chofetz Chaim ZT”L, in Sydney Australia. In addition, Rabbi Sholem B. Hecht carries the title of past Editor at Sichos In English Publications, the clearing house for all of the English titles of the Lubavitch Movement and personal interprator (1990-1993) at live public addresses, of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M Shneerson. 

Rabbi S.B.Hecht played a monumental role in Iran, with the airlift of close to 2,000 Iranian student refugees, prior to and immideately following the Khomeini revolution, 1979-1981.

Rabbi Hecht is also a Teacher of Science & Religion at Beth Rivkah Girls Seminary in Brooklyn, NY. He is the author of Troves of weekly Torah sermons and many articles in various publications.

CEO of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education, Est. in 1940 under the auspices of Rabbi Jospeh I. Shneerson, and under the Vice Presidency of the late Rabbi Jacob J. Hecht OB”M. NCFJE is the umbrella organization of the Machne Yisrael Day Camp of Queens, founded 32 years ago by Rabbi S.B. Hecht. The NCFJE itself continues to play a vital role in Jewish Youth Outreach in Queens, greater NY area and beyond, with it's world renowned Jewish Release Time Program.  

Himself a Brother of 12. Alongside his wife Rebbetzin Channah Hecht, father of 14 children, 4 of which are Rabbis themselves, as well as 4 sons-in-law, Rabbis.

Rabbi Hecht, graciously celebrating his 32nd year as a pulpit Rabbi, and as the Senior Chabad Shaliach (Ambassador) to the Borough of Queens, continues to serve the greater Queens, NY Jewish Community.
